Kane, I know what kind of filter you are talking about, I believe they are sintered bronze. I didn't use one, I do have 2 baffles between the inlet and outlet fittings.
AC Driers are baffled, condensors are not. ( The condensor sits in front of the radiator) An AC drier also contains desicant, and a siphon tube which must be removed before using it as a catch tank. I had to have fitting bungs welded to the can because the thinwall aluminium is not thick enough to tap for NPT hose barb fittings.

I've got a A/C condensor (could be the drier since it's been sitting in my garage for 2 years and I just found it) from a 98 civic at my house and upon initial inspection from removing the fittings and sensor on it, it looks exactly the same inside as your catch can. I will open it up some time this weekend hopefully and see exactly how it's constructed. I shined a light through to look inside originally and didn't notice a siphon tube. Also you are right about the thin walls. A bung would have to be welded in.

Kane, It has to be a drier. The condensor looks like a small radiator. When you cut it apart, be prepared to catch lots of little desicant beads. Or a mucho grande mess will occur.

oh alright, definately the drier then. I wanna cut it open and see if there's anything inside it.

The will be either a desicant packet, or just loose desicant beads trapped between the baffles.

sorry for my ignorance but, as i understand, an oil catch can is to prevent oil to enter the intake manifold ( correct me if i'm wrong ) but why is it preferable to prevent this ?
