Default Custom 6pt Roll Cage + 5pt Harness + Racing Seats

Ok, there has been many threads regarding cages and many threads discussing harnesses and so on...

BUT! Lets really get down to the nitty gritty here.

Ive read all the cage/harness/racing seat threads i could find, and yet NONE of the threads have truly answered the question im about to ask...

If all safety measures are taken, is it safe (not likely to kill me) to run the following in a STREET driven S2000, that i ONLY drive on the weekends and NEVER as a DD.

Im 5'10''
Spoon Carbon Kevlar Seats (Sit MUCH lower than stock seats)
Mugen Rails (sits you even lower)
Takata 5 point harnesses
Custom 6-point roll cage

My theory behind this is this:

If im sitting 3 inches lower than stock, and im wearing properly mounted 5 point harnesses that prevent submarining and movement of body and my car has a properly installed, but not excessive, simple roll cage.......AM I UNSAFE?

I dont see a way that my head could hit the cage, with 5 point harnesses, being 5'10'', sitting on mugen rails and spoon seats, all properly installed, with a proper cage.

my car is just a weekend, track, show, cruise, sort of car...and i want to know if im crazy to do a simple cage?

whats the safety issues if im running a low seating position and have proper harnesses?

~Matty~

p.s. i also am removing all the airbags, since i have a racing wheel. Also, I dont care about practicality, at all. I have a seperate DD. Just performance, looks and safety. And when i say safety...i mean, lack of dying.

If you don't care about practicality, wear a helmet and HANS when you're driving around in your harnessed and caged car.

Or switch your seat to a "halo" seat with head wings.

Bicycle helmet if your head could hit the cage? It would offer some protection and wouldn't be as bulky as an actual helmet. Of course, it wouldn't be as safe either.

In terms of wearing harnesses on the street, it is considered poor form due to the possibility of a head-on collision. A standard seatbelt allows your body to fold forward and absorb some of the impact.

sounds like you are trying to do everything with it, it's a show car, weekend car, track car and a cruiser?

if it's a real show car then by all mean pack every show blings in there, it's gonna be sitting at some show and trailer on and off, right?

if it's a track car then put a cage and guts all the interior, more structural integrity, safety in event of roll over and you'll be wearing a lid and hans device.

if it's a weekend/cruise car then just get a roll hoop, there's no point of wearing a lid in a "cage" on the street. Well, unless you got a very understanding s/o. The stock seat belt is designed to work with the airbag system with stock seat geometry, if your face is lowered by three inches and wearing a 5 pt, it's a totally different game. In an event of a frontal crash, the three point seatbelt let you "slide" forward a bit so your neck will not take all the forward trust.

of course at the end it's your call, but if you ask me a full cage on a street car is very pointless. be safe.

Your logic is flawed. Just because you're secure in a static condition, doesn't make you safe in a crash. Harness belts will stretch on impact, up to 20%. Your body (e.g. neck) will also stretch ALOT in the event of an impact. Like others have stated, unless you're wearing a helmet you don't have the proper equipment.

Your gonna do what your gonna do.

Im 6'2 and i was going to run the same exact setup.

I opted against it and ran a cusco 5 pt with brides instead and takata 4 pt harness with a removable steering wheel. But to be honest i might be switching to a 6 point.

If you decied you want a 6 point cage and DD it without a helmet then consider throwing some foam blaster pads on the bars near your head it might not completely cushion the blow if a severe accident were to occur but im sure it will help. At shows and such you can take the foam off. Might not be a complete solution but its an idea.

why not use a Cusco 4 point cage? that way you don't have to worry about smacking your head on the roll cage?
