I've got the onboard computer in my BMW Z3 that monitors fuel consumption and distance traveled to report MPG. MPG goes sky high when you coast in neutral, when compared to coasting in gear with no throttle.
I don't think this comparison is relevent to an S2000. For an example, my last Corvette and Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd had this trip computer as well. On both of those, when you throw it into neutral and coast, sure the MPG goes very high, but when you go closed throttle in engine braking mode, the indicator went to 99 MPG, the highest it can go. When you use no fuel, you can go for ever.
It's all in how the trip computer was programmed to interpret no fuel use over a set distance and time.

what do you mean uses no fuel?!.. the throttle body is always partially open and the ecu determines the amount of fuel using two factors, your rpm and the map reading. When you are rolling downhill in gear, the ecu is sensing your rpm and the vacuum reading and gives sufficient fuel where as in idle, it't the same idea but your rpm would be lower so typically the car would consume less fuel.
Wrong! You have much higher vacuum coasting above idle than at idle. It's this high vacuum that tells the ECU to reduce (or totally cut) fuel until vacuum reaches idle value.

[QUOTE=BryanH,Mar 31 2006, 11:22 PM] I'm curious, because I've never heard that the injectors shut off when you drive in gear with the throttle closed down a hill.
