Crownwheel and pinions and Miata 1800 compatibility
Dear s2000ophiles,
I had a S2000 and Miata 1800cc diff next to each other. Interesting observations. The diff carrier ( cast iron part) of the two units looked exactly the same with the only differences being the mounting brackets. The casting flashing, bolt pattern etc were exactly the same. Inside the crownwheel and pinion looked the same. I didnt get a chance to disassemble and check exact dimensions and splines.
(Before someone asks/comments the aluminium halves of the housing are completely different)
They look like they are made by the same manufacturer. Has anyone checked compatibility of the crownwheel/pinions? The Miata 1800 world could be a good source of different diff ratios and LSD's.
Speedracer.

Torsen makes both.
Hmmmm makes you wonder if ring and pinions will exchange. I have 3.6, 3.9 an 4.3 for the Miata.
They also make other ratios.
Since the Miata world uses RX7 diffs sometimes that would mean there is the potential to tap in to that market also.

If this helps when we got our 444 gears and install kit we ran the bearing numbers etc they were mazda since 1992 or so i believe. By the time they were done the speed shop was convinced all parts were stock mazda.
