Here are a couple of aftermarket vacuum pump.

The "guy on a budget" pump

http://www.fastbygast.com/Catagories/Produ...tion/Vacuum.asp

and the "guy with more money than God" pump

http://www.starvacuumpumps.com/catalog.php?cat=1

I use a similar electric vacuum pump on my car and in back to back 1/4 mile runs it's worth .09 seconds which equates to ~10 hp on my car. The correct pump will pull ~ 15" to 18" Hg and should flow ~20-30 cfm.

The Fast By Gast pump is available through WW Grainger for ~2/3 of the price on their website.

These type of pump are DEFINITELY worth some hp (my estimation is between 3 and 8 on an F20C) are are cheaper and easier to install than headers, camshafts, etc. that cost 2 to 5 times more $$$$ and show comparable hp gains.

I have a Fast by Gast style pump that I will be happy to loan anyone who wants to conduct a back to back dyno test.

Just let me make sure I get this right. This mounts between...the valve cover and the intake/IM or vents to the atmosphere?

Also would this be safe for daily driving or would this be a race only. Do you have to use any pressure switches to make sure it dosen't suck too much pressure out?

You have PM greenlight

s2krev - Replied to PM.

The inlet of the pump goes into the crankcase (usually via cam cover, etc.) and vents into the atmosphere (usually into a puke can of some sort with a breather). You can run it continuously, but both pumps are noisy. I would just run it as needed (i.e. Mustang, Camaro, etc. next to you at the light). I'm not sure what the pump life would be with it running continuously.

There are bypass valves that you can use to regulate the amount of vacuum, but I don't think you'll need one.

i doubt it is oil going from the breather into the intake.

more likely the oil was getting past the piston rings into the cylinders.

the krank vents are probably creating a better ring seal to prevent oil from going past into the cylinders.

i say this because...this was the problem with oil consumption in early 2000's corvettes...chevy wrote up an article about this and had a recall on piston rings.

secondly, ap2's have a different piston ring part number and they don't burn oil...

Takes power to run a pump and after all is said and done you probly break even..... I used supra PCV valves and they create vacuum in the crankcase just like the krankvents but these only cost me 4$

The air pump you here come on when you start the engine injects fresh air into the exhaust system ( at the Cyl Head ) to heat up the converter.... Once it reaches a specific temp inside the coverter it shuts off.....I know you think the outside air is not that hot but by adding oxygen to the exhaust gasses leaving the head ( which contains lots of unburned fuel ) Results in a controled burn in the manifold, the super heated gasses from that rapidly heat the converter.

I have seen some ap2's use oil but it's not as common.
