Default CrankCase breather

Is there any advantage to putting a K&N, etc, crankcase breather filter on the s2k? I know the effect would be minimal, but I ask because I noticed on both Speed Craft and UR's pics of their kits the crankcase has a breather.

Are you talking about the oil catch can? I haven't heard anything about a crankcase breather.

If you are using an oil catch can, using a crankcase breather in addition will allow air into the engine without backing up oil into your intake. You would need the oil catch can otherwise you're still putting oil vapor into your intake path and thus defeating the purpose of using a breather.

Yes, that is what he's talking about. He's asking for the advantages of using one, and without an oil catch can to prevent oil buildup in the intake track the "advantages" are minimal.

The breather is necessary for FI so that the engine isn't pressurized. If the engine is pressurized, the gaskets will blow out. For NA applications, I think it is just "rice".

if you put one on ur s2k will no longer be a environmentally safe car!!!!!! haha. the crankcase gasses are usually vented into the intake so that it is not released in to the atmosphere, so if you put the breather on it will just go out of that. now im not sure if the gasses coming from the crankcase are hot, but if they are i assume you can benefit from making the intake temps cooler.

The breather should go at the inlet of the valve cover, not the PCV. Air will flow IN to the breather, not out of it.
