Default crank pulley is locking up motor..

Hey s2ki

i have run into a problem. the motor was rebuilt because of a spun rod and main bearing.

i purchased a new crank and new rods. motor was rebuilt with acl bearings.

put the motor together was putting the crank pulley on and we could not tighten it to the 181 lbs needed. apparently the pulley was rubbing on the front of the timing casing. locking up the motor. i made a call and was told that the crank was most likely pushed too far back.

either the crank is pushed too far back or there is a washer or spacer that goes in between in the timing sprocket and the crank pulley that im missing any help or any ideas is greatly appreciated

thanks.

This doesn't make sense, could you elaborate? Using the crank pulley tool, the pulley will locked in position relative to the crank w/the keyway. How is it locking up the motor inhibiting your ability to torque??

Exactly what I was thinking. If its locking up the motor it would be easy to torque the bolt down.

There are only 2 things behind the timing cover on the crank snout. The cam chain sprocket and the crank trigger. Sounds like you are missing one of them.

Are you sure that the pulley has not been swapped with a K20/24 by mistake?
Cheers

Sounds like a missing trigger wheel to me.
