Crackling Sound At 3000 RPM
Hello! I have a 06 with 58000 miles on it. I hear a very annoying sound coming from the engine when I'm at 3000-3800 RPM. It sounds like a dry chain turning (that's the best way I can explain it)
It's more like a crackling sound similar to microwavable popcorn. And no, it doesn't go away when the engine is warmed up. It goes on throughout the day. I thought maybe it was the TCT but had that checked out.
Here is where the problem is.. I took my car to NTB to get an oil change done a couple months back. After a week I noticed a deep sound from the engine. Come to find out that they had forgot to put the Oil Cap back on there. Some oil actually boiled out and drained on the sides. It didn't cause any damage (as far as I know).
Could it be that the hot oil fell on some kind of belt or hose that is now making this raspy sound?
All help is appreciated guys. I know it's hard for me to explain the problem but hopefully someone gets the idea. Thanks!

+1. Almost certain the oil cap fell down behind the engine and is now resting on top of the transmission. If I'm not mistaken the only way to get it out is to lower the transmission.
