Default Cracked Radiator

Hey guys. I'm technically retarded and I wanted to double check one something. I've got a cracked radiator that is leaking coolant pretty rapidly. I'm almost out of coolant now and am trying to figure out what to put into it until my new radiator arrives. The fluid leaking is green. What should I mix in with it? Is it safe to just put any coolant into there? I'm afraid of damaging anything by mixing the wrong fluids or whatever. Like I said, I'm technically challenged.

Edit: I have searched and found what coolant I should use, but I'm mostly just checking to make sure that its safe for me to mix whatever is in there with the Honda fluid.

Let us know if you need help looking for a new radiator. We can get one overnighted to you. You could have it by Wednesday, probably around 10am.

Its safe to mix fluids in the meantime, but the honda fluid is pretty expensive. Id just get some generic fluid to run for a day or two. Ideally, you want to remedy the situation as quickly as possible.

Yeah I've got a new radiator on the way already. I'm only driving 3-4 miles a day in the meantime. Benefits to living so close to work.

Thanks for your input! Thats pretty much what I was looking for!

when you replace the radiator, be sure to follow Billman's bleeding procedure to make sure you get all the air out of the system.

Best and easiest way to get the all the air out, is to fill radiator up to the top using a larger funnel. Also fill the funnel to the top and then let the car idle and as soon as the fans come on it will suck in the rest of the fluid from the funnel and all the air will come out and it will blow hot. Make sure the funnel doesn't run dry. Of course make sure you got the heater on to the max with the AC off.

in the mean time...take the bus or cab. it'll be cheaper than replacing your engine.

I had to drive about 5 miles once with a hole in the radiator. Let me tell you it sucks. The engine warms up VERY quickly. If you have to drive any where get up to speed quickly and then immediately throw it in neutral and kill the engine and coast as long as possible. On flat ground you should be able to coast from 50 mph for a good half mile. But the best thing to do is just not drive the car until it's fixed.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm going to borrow a car until I can get my radiator replaced!
