CR Steering Wheel into AP1
Just an FYI for AP1 people looking to get the CR steering wheel. It's not a direct swap, you'll have to swap out the CC switch units and put the AP1 switch on the CR wheel, this involves a few modifications to some plastic clips, but nothing major.
I didn't think to bring a camera when I did my install, as I thought it was going to be an exact swap.
Anyways, Heres what you need:
- CR Steering Wheel (DUH)
- Phillips screw driver
- Torex screw driver (size T27)
- 14mm deep socket ratchet (or regular 14mm with an extension).
- A pair of pliers (I had needle nose handy, they worked great)
To remove the steering wheel please see this thread: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=264411
He's spot on except the bolt to remove the steering wheel isn't a 19mm, it's 14mm. Simply follow his instructions for removal.
To do this is pretty simple but to get the AP1 CC wire out (and then into the other wheel) you have to bend the side tabs on the green connector (pliers work just fine and these don't effect the connector at all.
There is a piece of plastic on the CC switch unit that might block the airbag from going in right. I simply pushed on it a bit and it broke enough off to get everything in as it should be. This may not happen on your install as I can't be sure if I simply didn't push the piece to the side enough.
Then you have to pry off another piece of plastic in the bracket that holds the SRS plug (on the bracket, its the bottom tab). Again, pliers are just fine for this. If you don't break off the clip in the bracket the AP1 SRS plug will bulge out and you can't get the cover back on.
Other than that it's just a simple swap out, the changes just seem like revised parts updates over the years. It was a very easy install and took me around 20 minutes from start to finish. It may take shorter, but I kept forgetting tools inside /
Enjoy the new leather!

Can you post a picture of the CC switches and plugs? I have an 04 CC switch in my 02, and I figured they were the same. I know that the switch to harness plug is differant, but the harness to car plug is the same. I have both on my desk, so seeing the CR harness will tell me alot.
