You're talking $500+ in parts, list, and at minimum of 8 hrs of labor. That's assuming the bearings and everything else are in good shape. I would expect a dealer to charge around $1300 for this.

It would be cheaper to swap in a used transmission. Maybe 6-8 hours of work and less than the parts cost for the trans.

Get a used AP2 trans off the boards here, and you wont regret it!

I thought AP1's werent supposed to use an AP2 tranny beacuse of the difference in gearing?

The argument has been made that the lower-1-4-geared AP2 transmission is more appropriate for the lower-torque 2.0 liter AP1, and the taller-1-4-geared AP1 transmission is more appropriate for the torquier 2.2 liter AP2.

Personally, I'd prefer the AP1 tranny's closer 4-6 ratios in either.
But for a street-only car, the AP2 trans is probably a better all-around compromise (slightly better off-the-line acceleration, very slightly lower cruise rpm in 6th).

I am running an AP2 tranny in my AP1 and it, along with an 11 lb flywheel, make passing a breeze. The car accelerates much quicker. You also drop your rpm on the hwy.

The last trans I rebuilt was over 700$ in parts + labor.
