[QUOTE=mxt_77,Jul 3 2007, 06:04 PM] If I understand what you're asking, then I say always re-clip.

I've found that keeping rearward finger pressure on the bar (the one the straps are SUPPOSED to pull back) is a necessity on all s2k, even brand new ones.

Most cars will get holes if this is not done.

Try it. Put the top down normally, then get out of the car and feel how much pressure the latches are putting on the top.

Now do it again, but holding the bar back for as long as you can as the top goes down, usually 80% of the way. The latches will no longer be pushing on the top.

I've been helping that bar back since day one. 77k miles and the top is perfect.

this really helps...i think i may have gotten a case of really bad luck - and right after i got the car so i'm just afriad to do the wrong thing again after i get it back from the dealer with a brand spankin new top. i will always reclip and take a look at the pressure they are putting on the straps/bars.

It is hard to expain, and i am sorry i've probably confused alot of people - but was curious if anyone else had heard of reclipping causing the latches to lodge under the bars in the frame of the top AFTER the top has been put down...

But thank you to all for helping this much so far...GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Not at all. Your post is an excellent one as the problem crops periodially as I've seen it posted now and again. Billman's advice is worth listening to. Now that I look at the car with the top down in the garage, I'm not so sure that the latched or not condition has anything to do with it.

Does the information from Billman apply to only glass window tops?

Or does it apply to plastic window tops of MY00 and MY01 as well?

I never did that, ever. And I didn't get any holes in my top, either. This should not be necessary. But I suppose it can't hurt.

thanks everyone...anyone know where or how to get an owner's manual ('04)...
OR, just curious if anyone has looked in the manual (I don't have one) to see what Honda says is the correct way??

Just curious...
