You should reclip the latches immediately after releasing them. If I understand correctly from what I've read in this forum, it is leaving the latches loose that punches a hole in the top. It may, however actually be a combination of leaving the latches loose and having the top misfold due to worn out eleastic straps. I would imagine that new straps are not part of the new top fabric but I may be wrong.

I think you are right, the straps are part of the frame not the top.

the more i think about it - this could be true...is it possible, though, that the ONE time i reclipped the latches and put the top down that they got lodged beneath the metal bar in the top because of bad elastic straps?

man thats some bad luck if thats true...honda said that they'd be replacing the latches and roof - i'm hoping they can throw in the elastic straps...if not - how pricey are those?

mine are still good after six years. but they do wear out after time. don't know if that was really the cause of your rips, but i guess you know now to always reclip the latches. whenever i put my top down, i also make sure that the bar connected to the straps goes down with it.

But, when I tried to reclip them before pushing the roof switch because it seemed more logical to me, somehow when I put the roof back and tried to raise it the latches got stuck and tore small 1-1.5" tears right near the latches. A bit puzzling and I wanted to be sure that if I reclipped the latches BEFORE hitting the roof switch that this would not happen again.
Sorry, I couldn't quite dissect this paragraph

My top is in pretty good shape for being almost four years old. My S2k is not a daily driver, so the top doesn't see a lot of up and down action. I just leave the top down when I'm done driving cause it goes into a garage.

*edit above post*

Now that I think about it, I always re-latch the latches when putting the top down.

My straps are worn, I just reach up and guide the bar with my hand for like 2 seconds and it does the same as replacing them. I don't have a problem with it and no holes or wear spots. Knock on wood.

Reclip!
