Cordless Impact
#41
Would I be wasting my money on a mid-torque impact like the IR W5150 with only 190ft-lb max reverse torque? For comparison, the high torque IR suggested here tops out at 780ft-lb. I kinda like the idea of using the W5150 to loosely tighten things since it can go down to 25ft-lb forward torque. Applications: rusty suspension, brakes, exhausts, lugs, subframe etc bolts.
You probably have your answer already but if not, I'll tell you the W5150 is probably not what you're looking for. It'll take off freshly tightened lug nuts (~90 ft-lbs) but don't count on it to remove rusty 14mm and larger bolts. For the price, it's hard to beat the 1/2" Craftsman C3 impact gun (with lithium). It's a medium-duty that's more powerful than your average 3/8" gun, but not bulky like the more powerful 1/2".
