Default convertible top latch

One of the latches rattles quite a bit over bumps at slow speeds when the top is up. Any way to tighten it or should it just be replaced?

It could be a few things. It could be worn striker plates, sometimes replacing them helps. It might be loose striker plates if the bolts have been touched in the past they could be loose. Or the latch may have lost it's tension. When you go to close the latch you should feel some tension on it as it is almost close. If you don't feel any real tension on it then there is an issue with the latch or the striker plate. Also make sure the mounting bolts on the latch are tight and have not loosened. I battled a loose condition on my hardtop for almost a year, it ended up being a bad latch which had lost it's tension. I tried the new striker plates which helped a bit, but it wasn't until I replaced the latch that I could actually get some decent tension on it. Once it has good tension on it the latch won't rattle and the roof will be tight.

I do feel some tension when I latch it. When I'm hearing the rattle I'll hold the latch and the noise stops. Can that part you can hold be tightened or should I just replace the latch? If it can be tightened can you explain how?

Thanks.

that part can't be tightened but if it has enough tension on it the latch won't rattle loosely. Some people have stuffed felt material in the latch to keep it quiet in those circumstances. If you are sure your striker plates are in good shape then you may want to replace the latch. Do a search on how some people have put material around the latch to keep it quiet, there are some posts on this.
