Default Continuous Fan operation

Hi all,

Picked up my S2000 last week and have noticed that what I presume is the radiator fan is constantly running, even from cold starts. I assume this isn't normal behaviour for the S2000?

Any thoughts to what it could be? The car still seems to warm up quite quickly, and I have checked that the A/C is switched off so it's not the A/C fan in operation. Thinking it can't be doing the car any good on cold starts really.

Thanks

Thermal switch likely is bad, I believe there is a way to test it. It gets left 'open' and car thinks it's hot. There's a thread somewhere on how to fix it.

Thanks, I'll have a search around the older threads.

Just remebered that the car is going in for a new alarm tomorrow at an auto-electricians. I'll get them to test the thermoswitch while it's in. Does anyone have the part number to hand in the event that it's found to have failed?

Thanks

37760-P00-004

try this number

it's about 40USD, you can check the voltage of the wire, i didn't bother after i found mine was busted, just replaced it.

have the tech check for any slice wire, there might be a switch or a ground that trigger the fan on, most likely a cheap modification for racer.

I ground out the thermo on my mazda so the aux fan will run all the time because the cooling system is undersized.

Thanks for that, hopefully be able to swap it out on Saturday.

However, I have discovered possibly an unrelated problem or the the cause.

1. On ignition, the radiator fan (nearside) turns on regardless of temp and runs until ignition off.
2. Similarly, the A/C fan (offside) also turns on regardless if the A/C is in operation or not.

Initially I thought it was something simple like a bad thermoswitch for the radiator fan, but the A/C is confusing, unless it works in conjunction with the radiator fan when needed. As far as I can tell the A/C is not stuck on, as I can hear a relay engage when I press the A/C button. (Although no real rise in revs when doing so)

It's as if the A/C is stuck on somehow. (This is with all heating controls set to off) Would the A/C wind up both fans? Perhaps pulling the relay might shed some light?

Hi Billman, no I didn't, but the car is completely stock so I'd imagine it's unlikely that's the case.

You'd be amazed at little things people do to cars.

I have never hear of both fans running while cold on an s2k, unless someone hard wired them.

Cant hurt to ask.
