Contaminated funnel while adding oil
HI Guys,
I'm really particular about my cars so this is really bothering me. The other day my S2000 was about half a quart down so I added some oil to top it off. Afterwards I noticed the funnel I used had some grit and a couple very small BB sized rocks on it - probably from when I swept out the garage the other day. I'm not sure if there was more that went in the engine with the oil, but I'm worried. I changed the oil and filter and the car seems to drive fine right now. Do I have a ticking time bomb under the hood? Should I drop the pan and take off the valve cover to see if I can find anything?
Thanks!

Unless it's a pretty good sized rock you probably won't find anything. Like you said the car runs fine. If the oil filter does its job, you probably have nothing to worry about. I've seen guys run itb's with no air filter and not have any problems.

Thanks! I have to check the my retainers anyways so I'll pull the valve cover this weekend. I'm sure, like you said, I won't find anything, but I've been putting off checking my retainers so this is a good reason to get it done!

Let the car sit for a couple of days. Any mineral contaminant should eventually sink to the bottom of your pan. Change the oil again and if you'd like, inspect the first couple of ounces during the drain. GL
