Concerns about installing an sc..
Just out of curiousity... if I was going to install an sc, should I also focus on other parts of the car also..i.e. build up the tranny or can i just install it with nothing to worry about?

hmm what about just driving it normally..only taking it to vtech as a last resort...more of a "i didnt want to use this, but i will" type driving..whatever its called

I gots a charger and the only thing i had worries about was the clutch but there doesn't seem to be a problem. I'm always in Vtec but I'm not the kind of driver who slams into gears and pops the clutch while keeping revs. There is a little clutch slip if you get on it hard (very unusuall though) but that is a good thing cause a new clutch costs alot less than a new rear end. Just to be safe I never dig hard off the line... unless provoked. I've heard that most stock clutches last about 3,000 miles with an SC.

the great thing about the comptech kit at least (i won't speak for vortech, but i'd imagine it's the same) is it's basicaly plug and play, and you're off. you're going to hear people suggest this part and that, but it boils down to the fact that comptech didn't leave anything out of the kit that you need, down to the last bolt.
there might be some OTHER mods worth considering, yes, but nothing that you can't live w/o. and speaking of running a sc off a stock cluth, take a look at what i've done to my car. my stock clutch is still going strong. keep in mind i don't clutch drop. i'm generating enough power off the line already without a vicious launch that my baby has yet to lose on the road ... yet. and if i think i'd lose, i would get a lil more aggressive.

^How many miles on the stock clutch? Any track driving?
I currently have 70k on my stock clutch, 46k with the SC, which is a Comptech with a Pro-Flow TB and nothing else (no A-C - bought before it was available). 304RWHP. I do 1-2 track days a year and a lot of street & commuter driving.
I do have some minor clutch slippage but only in a "competitive" situation in higher gears, like shifting from 3rd to 4th at WOT. I do lift the throttle when shifting but when I jump back on it there's about a second delay before the revs come down and the clutch hooks up.
I'm considering an aftermarket PP with a stock disk sometime this summer, I figure it's about time.

yeah, mod, it's prob about that time for you. hell! you must have been real nice to that sucker if it survived that long. i don't have near that many. let's say around 5-6k miles on my stock. when i replace it, i'll be going with something aftermarket, but i'm not sure what yet.

you will be fine, just don't launch...but i would give the same advice even for a stock S2000. If you plan on going with a smaller pulley for the SC...and you get a comptech SC, I would invest in a new Fuel Pressure Regulator. I've found with the comptech FPR, it can't add fuel quick enough, and then overcompensates causing you to bog, before it gets it right. I got a new FPR for $160 and it made a world of a difference.
You'll love the SC though...it makes the car so much more fun!

actually, i'd go one step further and say upgrade your ECU if you choose to go with a smaller pulley for more boost, but believe me. when you take the baby out for a test drive after the install, you'll gasp that people want even MORE power.
