I will be buying the 4.56 FD within the next few months. I have heard conflicting statements that the MY04-up rear diff is stronger than the previous years, and that upgrading to a Comptech diff isn't necessary. I am hoping to get a straight answer in this thread.
So, should I upgrade to the Comptech diff, or stay with the stock diff?

are you abusive or not?
the bearing caps are no different if I remember right. The casing is what is different. When people break their diffs it is usually due to bearing cap flex, not the casing breaking.
if you plan to supercharge, get it. If you do hard launches, get it.

if you're going FI then get the diff now. and do it when you get the gears, otherwise you have to pay the labor twice, since a diff install requires the same procedures as a gear install. 2 birds with one stone.
and heavy acceleration, such as the stress on the car during auto-x can cause bearing cap flex as well.
also this isn't really a UTH topic, but if I move it to S2000talk, it's only gonna confuse you more by the responses you'll get.

When I order the gears from Rick's, I am going to order the entire pumpkin, to include the Comptech reinforced diff. They'll install the gears and send me the complete package...making it a direct swap and reducing any chance of error.

I can see a distinct difference between the two OEM diffs and the Comptech diff.
