Comptech CAI, different filter?
Has anyone changed their Comptech filter and used a K&N or other? I'm trying to decide if a K&N might be a better replacement option for the current filter which I
need to replace. I believe the flange opening for our Comptech filter is 6-inches is it not?

I have an RU-3060 installed in my Comptech SC airbox.
The Comptech flange is about 5 1/2" so I glued some rubber strip to the inside of the K&N and it fits perfectly.

Russ,
If you go with the K&N, do an oil analysis on your next oil change to check how much silicon (dirt) comes through. K&N has good flow, but at the expense of better filtration. Hitting the sweet spot between filtering and flow is tricky, and depends on the environment you're in. I wouldn't want to use one in the dry desert southwest, for example, but in Florida's wetter climate we might be okay.

I agree with Russ and have posted to that effect. I know that the Comptech requires an aftermarket filter, but the handful of ponies you get from those foam and gauze filters is not worth the extra dirt ingested, and its potential to increase wear. I agree that an oil analysis is necessary, and more frequent oil changes may be needed. On the stock S2000, the airbox is huge and not a source of restriction. Yes, the CAI can sound menacing, but at a price. We used to sell K&N's, but stopped. Now, when I have an application that absolutely requires an aftermarket filter, i try to source Accel's Blue filters, or have buy from AFE. The AFE is a gauze filter, but with more surface area, and it uses a much better sealing silicone rubber over K&N's plastisol.
