I had two things that increased my oil consumption, using Mobil 1 and a bad PCV Valve. My car currently burns about 1 quart every 2000 miles, and has 163k miles on it.

I put a caps worth of oil into the cylinder. I'm using castrol 5W-30 and my PCV valve is fairly new and have checked it recently. I guess i'll try to get some stuff together this weekend and do a leak down test. I'll post the results once the deed is done
