compression test

Default compression test

i just did the copression test on my s2000 and it came as this


1#195
2#180
3#178
4#178


this test was done when the car was cold and sitting at my garage for 2 days.

Could be normal.

Do it hot the results will be very different.

Make sure:

-all plugs are out
-throttle is wide open
-fuel pump fuse is removed

run the car to normal operaturing temperature then try again

Just like a dyno sheet, do not get hung up on the numbers by themselves. If you had a huge disparity between one cylinder and the rest, that would be of concern. Do as the above gents said and re-test.

the plugs were out but i forgo to take out the fuse and i didn't press on the gas pedal. i will try to do it tomorrow.

youll get a very different result and be happy you didnt give it gas then lol!

Not removing the fuse is NOT good (in other words, it's important to remove it)

If the fuse is left in, fuel is sprayed into the cylinder during cranking, washing the oil from the rings yielding lower comp numbers.

so i think the engine is pretty good!

what can cause a compression leak? and will any places do a on-the-spot compression test for free like a cel reading or battery check?

bad rings, bent valves or valve guides or seals...head gasket...etc.
