Yes. How did they do the compression? Did you witness it? Each compression gauge is different but i've found the Snap-On's to be the most reliable. Was the engine warm when they did the compression test?

Follow up the compression test with a full leak down. If the leak down results are poor then it will give you a much better indicator of the engine's health. If the Leak down results are good i would take a close look at the valvetrain (retainers, keepers, springs etc.)

Hell even a bad test fitting, which is terribly common, will cause readings to vary.

Correct.

It's generally good practice to use two different compression testers as results varies between them.
