Default Complicated headlight problem

Before I approach these problems, thought I'd get a some opinions/suggestions first:
Bought a 07 couple weeks ago, still kicking myself for not realizing a problem with the headlights until I got home:
1)Passenger side hid bulb was out. Before I had time to fix it, the driver side hid went out a week after..
2)The daytime driving lights turn on, but when I turn on highbeams, driver side turns brighter but at the same time the passenger side goes completely out..

Extra info: the passenger side headlight has been hit before, He had to get a new set of headlight units (fender, bumper, and hood also..if it matters), but I guess the d2s bulb was damaged and he neglected to replace it.
Fuses are okay. I'd also assume the ballasts are fine, because the damage shouldve only been dealt to the bulbs. But the high beam issue suggests the wiring just needs some fixing (right?)
Sorry guys I'm really new at this; I've never worked with headlights before.. Any help or information is very much appreciated

kinda sound like a wiring problem and or alternator. look at the wiring and get the voltage tested. auto zone, advanc, etc will do it for free.
