Default Competition clutch failure

Changed the clutch myself 1000 miles ago. Engagement was high even with there being no contact with the screw on the clutch pedal. I'm wondering if the slave cylinder didn't go far enough back? Which would cause less pressure on clutch.

Anyway I took it to a track day Sunday. The clutch started slipping and juddering. Couldn't get over 30mph due to slip.

Came off circuit turns out the oil cap came off and spilled oil down the back of the engine. Not sure if this can reach and contaminate the clutch.

Don't fancy changing it again. What can I try before I resort to removing the gearbox?

Thanks in advance.

Is a stage 2 clutch also had flywheel resurfaced

Engagement is supposed to be high since its a sport clutch.

How much freeplay does your pedal have? Should be ~6mm.

The screw is always touching the pedal bracket...idk what you mean with your statement that the screw is not touching.

Hopefully you used factory bearings? At 1000 miles and 1 track day, that clutch could very well have reached the end of its life. But usually they jam up rather than slip.

Why did you use a comp clutch? cost, maybe?

A new clutch will/is supposed to grab low.

Sounds like an over-adjusted clutch MC rod.

Especially, considering the slipping clutch problem.

Yes, I'm assuming its over adjusted too.

However, "low" to me means right off the floorboard. A brand new clutch shouldn't do that.

The S2000 clutch engages high, as compared to something like a manual truck or muscle car. Its a sports car...most of the action is above the halfway point. Going the other way...its almost fully disengaged by the time the pedal is passing the halfway point. Right?

This also isn't a stock clutch. The comp stage 2 looks like a full faced disc...so it probably engages like stock? But a lot of sport clutches move the action even higher up than stock.

I had a go adjusting the bolts on the pedal now it engages very low. So much so it's difficult to disengage. It also judders a lot during engagement. Doesn't seem to slip anymore, will try bleeding it soon and seeing if that helps.

100% of the ACT PP installs I have done grab 1/3 of the distance from the floor.

There is only ine correct setting for the clutch MC pushrod. Find Soviet’s diy video.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I don't like that combo. That's too low for me.

But...in their defense, you're hybriding parts. OEM disc, and possibly a thicker PP/PP that clamps further.

Some sport clutch systems tend to come with a thinner disc material.

My Comp stage 4 clutch and my Exedy hyper single were tap-to-shift. All the action was up top. BUT...those are "race" geared clutches, I suppose.

Anyway, correcting the adjustment hopefully should cure the OP's shifting situation.

**Assuming the PP, hub springs and bearings are good

He says he's getting some juddering. I've replaced comp clutches with just a few miles on them for busted springs and bearings.

Getting the adjustment right is the correct place to start diagnosing.
