Cold start issues with engine start button
This issue is only apparent with cold starts, especially when the ambient temperature is a little on the cold side (say <45ºF). I have so far never noticed this with warm starts.
I push down the clutch all the way and turn the key to On. I hold the engine start button but nothing happens for about half a second, then the starter motor begins to turn. Occasionally on some cold starts it turns for a split second, then stops for another split second, and then starts again (still with holding down engine start). On top of that, when the car actually starts I hear a loud grinding noise as if you tried turning the starter with the engine already running. What could be wrong?
Also would like to add it doesn't happen on every cold start, only some, but it still makes me wonder. Can't be the battery as I've gotten that replaced about a year and a half ago.

The first thing I would do is remove your battery and clean the terminals. Your symptoms are typical of either a bad battery, poor battery connection or a bad ground. If cleaning the terminals doesn't fix the problem, clean the connections at your starter and grounding straps.
If none of these fixes the problem, consider taking your car to an auto store to check your battery. Just because it's relatively new doesn't mean that it can't be the problem.
Good luck.

I hate it too, it is embarrassing when it won't start and the 1980s car next to you starts up with no problem. I've repalce everything and have also taken it to the shop, some cars just won't start when its cold

Replace your starter. Looks like its sticking. I have the grinding at startup sometimes too LOL. I've heard a few guys replace the starter and never had the problem again. I'm yet to replace mine but im waiting for it to start trippin before I lay down the $$$.
