Default Coilpacks have rust color at end/tip (Where Spark Plug Connects)

Just purchased a 2.2l used engine with 82k miles. Switched out my spark plugs and noticed that all 4 coils have a brownish/orange (Rust color) at the end/tip. The spark plugs didnt have any oil on them so it seems the seals are working properly. Is this normal? My backup plugs I still have from my old engine never had this issue.

I have the same thing on my coils. Noticed it when I did my plugs about a thousand miles ago. Mine's an 02 with about 75k on it. Not sure if it's normal or not, but I see similar deposits when I do plugs on Mercedes engines(Dealership tech). I haven't seen it cause a problem yet.

Pretty normal for a lot of cars. Eventually it can degrade performance if it gets bad and the metal coil that contracts the plug actually corrodes, but I haven't noticed anything negative with just a little discoloration.

apply some Dielectric grease. Dielectric grease is a non-conductive, silicone-based grease that's designed to seal out moisture and prevent corrosion on electrical connectors. It's commonly used in automotive spark plug wires. When i swapped my plugs they had a small tear away foil pouch of some for like $0.98.

Don't put any dielectric grease on or too near the coil contacts (the metal part that touches the plug), or anywhere that it could get on the plugs for obvious reasons. You don't want anything blocking the flow of juice to the plugs.
