Default Coil welded itself to spark plug tube

So BAD story is I was driving to work, very nicely, and well i hear the car backfire.. ALOT, the RPMS drop im like oh man... Then I took my foot off my gas.. And she died.. I was on the freeway so I was like grr, I need to stop, so I started it again and it did it and the check engine starting flashing. So I was like thats my sign to stop no matter that there is no shoulder.. So I did..

Anyways later I start taking off the coils and #1 was stuck.. like really stuck..
I used a flat head and no dice, I twisted and it kind of moved and then I used the flat head again, and well it came out in multiple peices, as seen below..

My question is though, there is still about of inch of the coil still in the there and you cant get to it.. I was thinking, big drill bit and drill out the rest till I hit the actual spark plug.. What u think.. Also anyone else have this happen..

If you look closely u can see the coil was split in half, dont know how..

Not rare, usually caused by a loose spark plug. There was a plug TSB.

Yep it was a loose spark plug...

Question though, what did u guys do... I was able to get it all out.. but did you guys end up removing the head..

I was planning to do a compression test and remove the head if its bad.. But i didn't want to remove the head if i didn't have to..

My other question is there are bits of peices of the coil pack on the valvetrain.. I cleaned it up but Im worried what if there are stuck peices in the oil passages...

Ima drop the oil pan and clean that up.. Any other suggestions...

I had a similar thing happen to me.

I called Honda and bitched and they were really nice and paid for the new ignition coil and they gave me the new spark plugs that won't come loose.

My plug strip the threads in the head and scored the cylinder wall.
