Code P0301/P1399 was a bad coil pack
Parked my car one evening, running fine. Next morning it had a miss and a flashing CEL. Code reader showed P0301 and P1399. I could hear clicking in all the injectors. Changed the plugs, and at the same time swapped the no. 1 and 2 coil packs. Still had the miss, and code reader showed P0302. I put a new coil pack in cylinder 2, and the miss disappeared immediately. The CEL went away after a few drives. This made me wonder about carrying a spare coil pack and a code reader in case one failed out on the road - any experiences to relate?

If you want to carry a code reader, get one of these --> https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/961075-ultra-gauge/
I will read and clear codes (at least it does in my AP1) and has does some useful things while there is no CEL.

I just has the same two codes, but my cylinder 1 coil was completely dead and not firing at all. I ended up changing all coils to be safe (at 200k, I figured if one went, the others may not be far behind), and all plugs (already had em), and did an oil change to remove unspent fuel (definitely smelled like gas).
For a code reader, I went with BAFX Products Bluetooth OBD2 scan tool ($24 on Amazon), and Torque app for Android ($5). Full wireless OBD2 setup, code reader/clearer, and all diagnostics streaming to a nice display on my phone.
