When you launched, are you absolutely sure you got wheel spin or was the clutch slipping and you thought the wheels were spinning? I know it's a silly question but if the rpms shot up and you weren't moving off the line fast, you might have thought this lack of acceleration was tire slip instead of clutch slip.
You prolly spun your disk and glazed it judging from the smell you described.
Anyone using ACT?

if you roast your clutch i strongly suggest the HTG clutch kit. ACT pp, oem FD, and Comptech flywheel, (and new throw out bearing). It's just about a perfect setup for a street driven S2K.
It doesn't take many times smoking your clutch like that to fry it completely. I would take it very easy and if you have high mileage on your original clutch, i probably wouldn't practice your launch techniques on it.
To the OP, if you defineately spun your tires yet still slipped the clutch, then like you said, i wouldn't do that anymore until you get that CDV out.

I heard that S2k's are best racing on a slow roll, compared to launches/spinning your tires because the axles are kind of weak. My clutch always smells, but only right after I race it.

dont worry about the smell. it will go away in a few days. i have abused my clutch many, many times and at 50k miles, the clutch is still going strong. i can't speak for the late models, but the 02 clutch can take a lot of burns.
