Clutch Smell - Still
Gents,
Need some advice here. Last night, I tried launching for the first time. I took the car (MY05, 900 miles on odo) to 6000, dropped the clutch, and was off. Lots and lots of wheel spin, finally caught traction, shifted to second at about 7500, and then backed off before going into third.
Got to my destination, smelled that "heat" smell of a clutch. Figured that I didn't launch it correctly (even though I was off the clutch in a split second)...lesson learned.
Got in the car at lunch today, and after the car warmed up, I still smell the "heat" smell. What gives?

have you removed the clutch delay vavle? It's my understanding that with it still installed you're going to get clutch slip during launches and/or hard shifting. When you launched, are you absolutely sure you got wheel spin or was the clutch slipping and you thought the wheels were spinning? I know it's a silly question but if the rpms shot up and you weren't moving off the line fast, you might have thought this lack of acceleration was tire slip instead of clutch slip.
Now to your smell. Obviously you cooked your clutch a little (maybe a lot). If you glazed the clutch then that smell is going to remain for a few (maybe several) days. Baby the car for the next few days and the smell should go away. Hopefully.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you can not do high RPM shifts without clutch slippage in an AP2 until you remove the delay valve.

Thanks, gentlemen...it was wheelspin - a lot more than I thought (backend was sliding ever so slightly to the left and right as I moved off the line).
As long as the clutch delay valve is in place, I won't be doing that anymore.
