I took out the center console. I didn't do it when I was taing the tranny out. I just unscrewed the shifter knob but left the stick. I actually put the tranny back in with the interior still on, but it was not easy. I had to remove it again to get everything lined up and that is when I took the console out.
600 miles later.....no problems.

cdelena,
Any updates? Is your new clutch working well for you? Any regrets?
I am probably going to have to replace mine soon, and I REALLY don't want to take it to a shop.
Wasn't there a follow-up thread?

Thanks! I can't remember who (maybe it was me) pitched the idea of pitching in as a group on a used tire changing machine (eBay), and it was pooped on. This sounds more reasonable.
Is your clutch slipping because of excessive power? My '02 clutch sucks ass. It has felt really weak since it was new. I can't even "chirp" my cheap 280 treadwear street tires.
It's too bad this procedure is such a long one, or we could organize another club tech day...

This is post to tell the remainder of the story regarding the problems caused by the dealership during previous transmission work. After reporting all the bad to the service manager, I had to go in to see about alignment a month later and was able to deal with a service writer that wanted to make things right.
Jonathan found a way to fix what he could even though he only had my word and my car is a couple of months over the 36 month warranty. He replaced parts, drilled out the cross threaded bolt properly, and got all the problems of the front subframe, fasteners, and alignment taken care of.
So here is a case dealership mechanics did horrible job but the management and service team did what they could to fix it once aware of the problem. Obviously the ideal is to avoid the issues, but this was a good recovery. I will give JEH in Dallas credit and will work with Jonathan again.
