From time to time it's a bit more difficult to shift into second from first and this is under very nice driving conditions (no rodding). A bit of a description: When I try to shift into second (with clutch engaged) it goes into gear but not as easy as it's suppose to and with an almost clutch griding sound.. and all my old cars were manuals(mustang & celica) and I never have had this problem. I was just wondering what it could be what everyone thinks it is? -gage

 

See the hundreds of posts about the 1-2 grind. Sounds like you have a transmission with the problem.. probably not a clutch problem.

I don't think he is really grinding, because that would be pretty obvious what the problem is. I think it's probably just the notchiness that occurs most often when the car is cold. I sometimes get the notchiness when the car is not cold so it could be happening to him as well. When I grind, the car doesnt let me into gear. If your gettig into gear and are hearing this sound, than it's probably just the normal sounds (clunking) that this transmission makes on occasion. Plus don't forget that the tranny in this car is a lot closer to you than in most other cars. Your bound to hear more noises from it than you would in any other car.
