Default clutch problem

I did some searching on the forums and can't tell if I need a new clutch or if I need to just bleed the master and slave cylinders. I noticed two weeks ago the pedal was getting softer, but the car was shifting fine. Then last week I noticed I had trouble getting the car into 1st. Had to pump the clutch to get it into gear and I am having great difficulty shifting into reverse. I thought it was the clutch itself(original clutch assembly on car, 140k miles) and thought it was due for a replacement. But when I searched the forums, it seems that I should bleed the cylinders just to be sure. Can anyone give me some input? Should I just do both? Any advice is appreciated.

Try bleeding it first.
