Default Clutch kit options

Hey guys,

I feel like this is a topic that has been posted to death but it seems like there are so many choices I could use a little help. I bought a S2000 a few weeks ago from a dealer and part of the deal was that they replace the trans for me (synchros are f@#ked in 1st/2nd gear). Since they're already pulling the tranny they offered to replace the clutch for free (I have to buy the kit though). My main criteria for a clutch are drivability, reliability, and a long life. Here are my questions:

1. How much is ALL the stuff I will need from a honda dealer (friction disk, pressure plate, flywheel, bearings, etc)?
2. Are there any OEMish aftermarket clutch kits? (ACT HD?)
3. The dealer recommended an Exedy $600 kit. I've heard bad things about Exedy, but maybe thats just about their $250 kit?

It may cost more but many of us know first hand that the OEM parts are the way to go. Especially for the friction disk.

OEM isn't too pricey it's like $650 for everything you'll possibly need. And you'll have peace of mind knowing that you won't need to touch the transmission for another 10 years.

Use majestic Honda or hondapartsnetwork, you can even buy it piecemeal so you don't have to pay all at once.

The go to clutch formula is oem fd, release bearing, pilot bearing, act pp, and lightweight aftermarket chromoly flywheel.

If its an ap1, flywheel is already 14 lbs, not crazy heavy. But ap2 is a crazy 22 lbs. If its an ap2, trust me on this, get a lighter flywheel.

A lot on this forum like the 8 lb choices. But if you are worried that might be too light, something around 11 lbs is a good choice. Personally I like the act streetlite (11lb) or act prolite (8 lb) flywheels.

You should absolutely bypass the clutch switch. Puts less stress on the thrust bearings.

Any Exedy clutch components for the S2000 are junk. How big of an Exedy pile would you like to see?

Flywheel can be resurfaced no problem.

S2000 factory pressure plates are near impossible to kill. I have re-used countless units with 100% success.

Oem disc and two bearings are likely all you will need (tech should inspect the fork and guide collar also)

I had a bad pressure plate, gave me quite the leg workout. I doubt this is common though.

I went with an ACT HD PP/OEM kit from Moddiction and am very happy with it.
