Hey everyone,

This morning when I started my car, it would not go into reverse. I managed to get it into first, but it was rather scratchy. I turned the car off and tried to put it in gear with it off. It was about this time that I noticed that when I put my foot on the clutch there was no resistance. It pretty much fell to the floor when I put my foot on it.

I assume something is wrong with my clutch, but I do not know too much about it. If I do have to replace the clutch how much do you think it will run me? Anyone know anything I could try to perhaps track down the specific issue?

It is a 2000 model.

I would be more than happy to try things out and give any more information that might be necessary.

I would greatly appreciate any advice or comments you guys are willing to give.

Haha by the way, tomorrow is my 21st birthday, so I am not looking forward to dealing with this so I can make it to work on Monday. O well, could always be worse

happened to my prelude back in the day, turns out my clutch fluid reservoir was leaking, and it leaked down to nothing, i had to bleed my clutch, luckily i had the brake fluid in my trunk to do it. If you own a prelude it's a prerequisite to have brake fluid and oil in your trunk at all times. so maybe try checking your lines, and see if your clutch reservoir is empty.

Lol, same thing happened to my 92 prelude...only happened once though. Like he said, check your fluid.

Haha my previous car was a prelude. I def had some fun issues with that one. Loved the car though.

Sorry for the beginner question, but would the clutch fluid being low or too old, really cause the clutch to fall the floor when you place your foot on it?

Also, how often should I be replacing the clutch and transmission fluids?

Yes

As often as necessary... check your CMC reservoir every once in awhile and bleed/fill it if it's low or looks excessively dirty.

Also, don't try to cut corners and just fill it... you need to bleed it in case you've got air in the CMC.

I had the exact same issue with 1st and reverse when I first got my 2002, bled and filled the CMC with whatever DOT3 I found at Autozone (probably Prestone) and have not had an issue since.

Awesome, thanks. Following up a beginner question with a second. How do I check the CMC reservoir? I have been looking around online and it I found a guide http://forums.s2kca.com/showthread.php?t=12154 , but is there a way to easily just check the state of the fluid? I opened what I believed to be the correct cap, but there was not really anything to be seen.
