Default clutch issue

so i replaced my (150k) clutch last march, using a new disc/bearings and a PP and flywheel that i bought from a member that had 19k. they looked to be in great shape.
the clutch pedal has gotten stiff over the last month or so; it happened gradually, it wasn't an overnight change. the first 2/3 or so of travel requires 4 times the effort it needed when new, and at that point there's a "release" of pressure and the pedal goes to the floor with a thump. the clutch still engages/disengages fine, shifting feel is normal...it's just the pedal that feels really wrong.
i pulled the slave cylinder and greased the ball and fork, and there was no nipple to grind off. no change in feel whatsoever.
my mechanic says "something is broken in there" which means minimum $500 just to open it up, since tackling a clutch is not something i've worked up the confidence for just yet.

has anyone experienced anything like this?

Maybe the bushing the pedal pivots on is worn out? Or the linkage to the master cylinder is binding somehow. I would think if there was damage in the bell housing itself, it would not want to go into or get out of gear. From what your saying its fine other than the pedal having issues.

Get under the dash, and push the clutch down while watching it. See if anything is binding or if the pedals bushing at the top is worn out.

well, it looks like not that many people were interested, but...

i pulled the slave cylinder off again for the hell of it. i started messing around with the fork, seeing what it would do and how it would move. i finally pulled it out of its "seat", and noticed that the pin and seat were both dry and had some grit and grime on them. so i cleaned as best i could through the little window and greased them well. then i noticed that the end of the fork was dry and a little rusty, so i applied some grease there with a screwdriver.

voila!!!! back to stock feeling!

i know no one cares, but i am beside myself with excitement right now. thanks for reading

if you can do ^that, you can tackle a clutch job with:

good friends,
long extensions,
some patience
a good trans jack
and a set of really tall jack stands.

plus 12 point sockets for the special bolts.
