Default clutch going after 23, 000 miles?

Hey guy's. I just purchased a used 2002 s2 with 23, 000 miles on it. The clutch seems strong starting out or even launching at low rpm's. Never tried high rpm's yet. But when I rev. It out to 8-9 k and hit 2nd or 3rd it seems like the clutch is slipping bad. The car is completely stock. It just seems weird to me how it can be slipping with just 23, 000 miles.

If you had an 04+ I'd say it's the clutch delay valve, but you have an '02 if your profile info is correct.

If you bought the car used, you really can't assume that it wasn't driven hard. Hopefully even with hard driving the clutch would still be fine at 23k, but then again one of my friends burned the clutch up in his new Mustang in under 8000 miles. The disc literally came apart in pieces when they removed it. That's a fairly extreme case, but it goes to show what is possible.

Maybe try changing the clutch fluid first. I have no idea if that would help with slipping, but here's some info:

All you need is a turkey baster and some patience.

Yeah. My profile is right. It is an 02. Car fax is clean. But you never know if anyone changed the trans out or what have you. Whats a clutch delay valve. Im new to this. My other car is an eg with a b16a swap. Lol. But it could just be the cluth going to. Like you said' you never know how it was driven before.

The 04-09 cars had a clutch delay valve put in because Honda got tired of replacing their crappy rear differentials under warranty, so they applied a band-aid fix to reduce driveline shock when shifting. Basically it feels like your clutch is slipping a little bit when you shift very quickly at high RPM. Again, this is only for the 04+ cars.

Thats exactly actually what it feels like. Ill have to look more into it. Either my clutch is week or someone replaced the trans. Ill try launching a bit higher and see what happens and have my brother check the number on the trans. He works at phillipsburg easton honda in parts.

i think he means when he redlines and shifts really quick. this happens to me all the time. for the OP try letting the RPM fall just a tad bit before you release the clutch

I suppose it's possible that the slave cylinder was replaced with an AP2 part, thus making your AP1 car inherit the clutch delay valve. I would check the part number on the slave cylinder as well.

Ill try that. But it just seems like this shouldn't happen on a honda.Let ali be an s2. I hope I just need a clutch and this isn't suppose to happen. Lol

Well if the slave cylinder was indeed replaced with the newer part, going back to the old version is a hell of a lot cheaper than getting a new clutch.
