clutch/ gear box has given up
Hi all, I'm not new to the forum just i cant get i to my usual account so I've made this till i can as i need some help.
the cars a 2002 silver stone silver s2k with 60,540 miles on it (im guessing that's the rough time clutches do go)
the other day when driving home i knocked it down from 6th gear to 4th (Im pretty sure it was that) as i did this the revs started to run up very fast as i released the clutch and went back on the gas but my speed fell. i pulled over and there was a strong smell of clutch. Now from gears 2 to 6 i have no drive, all i can use is 1st and reverse. From a stand still in any of those higher gears if i try to pull away on the clutch nothing happens. I just found this odd as it was an instant thing no grinding, gears still go in easy and the pedal hasn't gone stiff or loose. I'm guessing i will be needing a new clutch. But whilst the cars stuck on the drive i was wondering if any one had herd of anything like this happening? and what other damage may have been done as i had to nurse the car a few miles to a service station.
The engine sounds fine still smooth and not lumpy there are no leaks so im hoping that part of the car is all ok.

Well, continuing the abuse to the pressure plate while driving it to the service station probably marred the surface area of the plate. You might've marred the flywheel as well. You won't really know until you drop the transmission.

Ah I am expecting the worse a clutch a D fly wheel wouldn't be ton bad. The gear box is my main concern. Some people have said it may just be a loss of hydrolic pressure but if it's still gripping on 1st and reverse I doubt it's that. Either way it's sad times as much as it make for a pretty ornament on the drive it's always nicer to use.
