Default clutch and flywheel suggestions

found a very old thread asking about the 'best clutch' from 2002 or something.

I'm rebuilding my engine to a NA 2.4L, hopefully around 270rhp, no plans to go FA. I don't track or autoX my car, i just drive it hard on the street once in a while.

My mechanic recommends a comptech stage 2 clutch and flywheel.

I wanted to see what the S2ki community recommends.

My car had 111,000km on it when the crankshaft bearings gave way (car was running lean and pistons started scraping), and the clutch was starting to slip a bit, and was starting to give out.

I'm looking for a streetable clutch, easy to drive something that will last, but will give good performance.

Is there a huge difference between Spoon, Mugen, Toda vs Competch, etc (American brands?) I'm trying to save money as the build is getting expensive.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

i would say that below 275hp you should be fine with oe clutch and fly.

if you plan to go bigger later on than plan for that now. now how much torque are you looking at making with the larger displacement? cause i would see that being more of an issue especially if you see quite a few hard launches in your future...

also figure that you would rather have the clutch let go early again than have to deal with the tranny or diff issues that could came with a more agressive clutch that will not have any slip on those hard take offs

hp means little when you are talking about clutch it's torque that you need to focus on.

you need to start asking how much torque will the new set up put out then go shopping, i always have luck with ACT and exedy clutch, i have one sitting around waiting to put put in for a while now

You should always try to match the torque output and stage of clutches. I find the OEM clutch work well on small torque gain like 20 extra.

thanks everybody... my build should be similar to this: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...=538548&st=275

so torque to the wheels should be about 185rtq (of ft/lbs) not sure of the units of measurement
