how long does it take your fluid to go black? i've only put about 2 thousand miles on it since my slave mod and its black again. isnt that kinda fast?

I don't think the "blackness" of the fluid is a sole indicator of the clutch fluid being "bad". There's something in the upper part of the hydraulics that sloughs off that black particulate.- perhaps there's rubber rings in the master plunger. Even though the color is one sign, the only true indicator is a test for water content. Failing this, a change every year or two should be adequate.

oh.. i see. it was my belief that since it absorbs water or whatever that it would turn black because of it. guess not =P

No, it's not water that turns it black. To prove it to yourself, just take some new brake fluid and pour water into it.

I'm not disagreeing with Xviper but I can't help but wonder about what's going on in your case. Is your clutch fluid truly "black," or is it just darker than you expected it to be at this point in time?

The reason I ask is, after reading your question and Xvipers response, I was wondering what my clutch fluid looked like. I just went and looked and it's a nice brown color. Definitely darker than fresh brake fluid but nowhere near black. I can still see through it and it's the original fluid with almost 25.9k miles on it.

I would assume that you pretty much did a total fluid replacement while bleeding the system after doing your clutch slave cylinder mod. That being the case, it seems strange that it would be that dark after only 2000 miles?

well maybe its just the dark lighting, i know its definately nowhere near new looking. give me 10 minutes im gona try to take a picture with flash maybe that'll help. i think a nice brown is a better description of it but 2k vs 29.5k miles = the same? seems weird to me too

okay now it doesnt look so bad with the flash haha.
it looks more like coffee or tea now.
either way i think that was pretty quick?

^ Actually, that's pretty normal looking. It can go like this even after a couple of weeks after a bleed. You'll know a lot of black particles sloughed off. You'll see it clinging to the inside of the reservoir.
