Clutch felt gritty then it popped
Edit 1 year later: It was the throw-out bearing. It completely separated into two pieces with ball bearings everywhere. The clutch disc and pressure plate had no identifying markings, even more generic than the ebay stuff. Weird.
I was driving to work and the pedal felt gritty like sand paper as I depressed it, and a slight whirring noise with pedal down. Fluid level was fine and actuation was completely normal, bite/friction zone in the same place so I kept driving. When I parked in reverse with pedal to the floor it violently stalled, like I sidestepped off the clutch. Pedal was on the floor so I pulled it out, now it won't go in. Super stiff, scared to put too much muscle into it.
I can roll it in neutral, and go through all gears. Took the slave off the next day and everything seems fine. With slave out if I push the pedal the rod shoots out and pedal sucks to the floor so slave/master should be fine?
I put the slave back on making sure fork was clicked into place and it's the same, rock hard pedal. The weird part is I think the clutch switch broke too because starter won't do anything. Not a click or buzz when I try to start it (I can push the clutch just enough to release the switch) fuse is fine.
What would make the pedal rock hard like this? only thing I can picture in my mind is a clutch spring popping out so the clutch/pp can't move. I'm at a loss. Cars at work I have a back up, I need to confirm what it is so I can order the parts before next weekend. Unless it's the worst case scenario which I'm afraid to say out loud... Please help
