i have this problem. sometimes when im cursing on 4th gear, it'll sometime pop out back into neutral. sometimes i feel like i don't put it in all the way so thats why it pops back out but is this normal. this doesn't happen all the time. just once in a while. also when im going into 2 or 4th gear, im always grinding. is it because im letting it in too early befor i hit the clutch or is that a sign of clute wear. im a little confuse on that. anyone care to comment. sorry for the dumb questions. thanks

Most Likely it's currently the CDV mixed with ap2's heavy Flywheel.... The ap2 flywheel on your car is 10+ pounds heavier than an ap1's flywheel.

Sooner or Later after removing the CDV you'll experience your clutch slipping on fast redline shifts.

Best bet is to remove the CDV.... It's really a stupid device. And fix the problem with a stronger pressure plate / lighter flywheel.

I have a removed CDV. Still working on the second half of the equation.

There's no if or buts about it... Simply removing the CDV is only a temporary fix if any. It still needs to go though.

hi...would like to chk how long u've been CDV less. Is yours an AP2?

btw wats the work involved then?

i would prefer to have full control without the CDV, if it chirps then i gotta learn my shifting properly.

thank you for your info.
Whoops, sorry never kept track of this thread. I'm only nearly 2 years late haha.

But yeah, cdv-less for about 2 years. Clutch still grabs hard. I drive pretty aggressively, but I match all rpm's during shifting though. If you drive even more aggressively with no matching, I can see the clutch wearing down per 07RioS2k's comments. I'd still take it out, though.

I drove a friend's ap2 with the cdv. It's ridiculous how much that thing interferes. Shifted at redline, and the engine just kept up near redline because the clutch just wasn't grabbing.

Aftermarket clutch kit > cdv delete > ap2 oem.

Its not the CDV, and it is clutch slip. The CDV regulates clutch engagement speed, but the clutch slip occurs because the pressure plate is not strong enough to sieze the clutch disc and flywheel, since in 2004 Honda put in a flywheel that is twice as heavy as the previous one, but did nothing to improve the pp's ability to deal with the extera inertia.

Get a lighter flywheel, or a stronger pp, or both, to improve the engagement. A stronger pp is the best route to go imo.

All the CDV does is prevent driveline shock, which is helpful on clutch dumps as well as normal shifting when driviung as it helps prevent a bad shift from upsetting the car balance.
This

If you want to shift very quickly, you'll have to upgrade like Saki said. Just removing the CDV won't solve the weak pp problem.

And there are a lot more broken AP1 diffs...

Hey guys, this thread was brought back to life by mistake. The problem has to do with "popping out of gear"... has nothing to do with the CDV.

At any rate, I have been CDV-less since getting my AP2 1.5yrs ago. No problem.
