Default Clutch contact when disengaged

I've always noticed that if I'm rolling slowly foward in neutral, then push the clutch pedal and put it into first, a kind of "clunk" noise comes from the transmission, as if the clutch weren't fully disenaged when I put it into gear.
Today, I was playing with the clutch pedal after starting and noticed it changes the idle. For example, cold start-up, it's idling at 2kRPM's. I release the clutch when it's in neutral, and the RPM's drop by about 200. Push the clutch back in, they go back up.
Are both of these things normal?
Thanks

adjust the pushrod on the back of the clutch pedal to extend the amount of throw. lengthen it.

I also have the cold idle thing, where the clutch affects the RPM slightly. I'd like to know if that's normal too, since I just had my clutch replaced. My clutch pedal also makes a noise when released. It seems to get quieter when the car warms up. Anyone?

can you be any more vague on the noise? is it a squeak? grind? i'd hit all the moving parts on the clutch pedal with some spray lube first. and probably flush and fill the clutch hydraulic system with dot 3 brake fluid

No need to adjust anything.
All you describe is perfectly normal.

The "clunk" is what happens when all the gears and shafts in the transmission come to a halt when you engage first gear directly after pushing the clutch.
Try waiting 1-2 seconds before you put it in first gear OR put it in second gear and then into first.

When your car (transmission) is cold it takes more energy to keep all the parts in the transmission spinning, the oil is cold and thick.
When you release the clutch you make the engine spin the gears and shafts in the gearbox (even in neutral) and that takes energy and will result in a slightly lower idle.

the noise is a like a groan. as if the pedal is not lubricated or something. This started happening all of a sudden over a month after getting my new clutch. Cold weather maybe? Also, how do I get the dirty fluid out of the clutch resevoir?

IMO is your installer didn't lube certain parts while installing your new clutch.
Worst case scenario is you have to remove the transmission again.
Easy fixes are to lube to slave push rod + fork.

There is a DIY on top of UTH, written by xviper
