ya...only in cold weather...it honestly sounds like the gears just staying against the flywheel for a second too long. I am swapping my tranny next weekend. i will look at the started and see if there is any ware. Also I will start it a few times with no tanny in to see if it does it without against a flywheel....if it does then it might need to be replaced soon or just greased up....I will post up what I find when I get there next friday

i have a similar problem, its a short grinding sound only on cold start up and doesnt even last as long as it takes to start the car. i was actually gonna post it as a new topic till i read this. its not clutch buzz. honestly i was thinking that maybe the starter motor was starting to wear a little. maybe even a replacement soon. interested to hear the feedback on this

This is starting to sound like the starter issues discussed in another thread. The closest any came to a conclusion was that it is a solenoid that retracts too slowly when cold.

Interesting, all this time I thought it was likely my TDC, but now that I am reading more of the post on this situation it does sound and act more like the starter failing to retract quick enough in the cold. I only get it first thing in the morning after its been put away all night, never anytime else. I thought maybe the TDC was losing some of its oil presure prime from sitting overnight but it didnt really sound like a chain rattle as much as a shriek that I am getting.
