Are you certain there's no air trapped in the system?

fairly certain. It also seems like it’d be a non-factor. The CMC is offering the right amount of resistance, and the plunger on the CMC is where it belongs, so I’m thinking it has to be some part of the pedal that is misaligned or improperly adjusted

........ unless the new CMC is dimensionally different (in a big way) than the old one, you just need to bleed the shit out of that thing

nope. It’s always had a ton of play. Even before the new CMC. I just never attempted to adjust it until installing the new one

I've never had to do this on my s2k, but the thing that I'm not hearing you say is whether or not you have adjusted the pedal height. If it's set high, then the rod has to be extended to reach the pedal arm. There should be a simple bump stop that limits how far up the clutch pedal will go. If you can adjust it so that the pedal doesn't come up so high, it should solve the problem.

i agree. I’ve searched the manual to how to make this adjustment, but the manual only talks about adjusting pedal height via the rod. Can you point in me in a direction on where to find this adjustment?
