Default Clutch adjustment question 1000 (but a new one) - SOLVED

I installed a new CMC a few weeks ago and the lock nut on the very back was super tight, so I didn’t adjust the pedal when I first put it in, but had a lot of play.

I decided to break it loose with WD-40 and break it loose so I could finally get what seems like an fairly large amount of play out of the pedal. What I found was to get most of the play out of the clutch, the rod had to be backed almost all the way out of the U-shaped joint in the pedal... I think when I finally had the play to just about a 1/2 inch, the rod threading was only engaged about 2-3 threads.

Is there some other adjustment point I’m not making use of? It seems like there is a TON of thread to make the clutch more sloppy, but not nearly enough to firm it up.

Any ideas?

First of all, you're doing it wrong. You want zero play, not .5"!

There is a veey good YouTube on the process. But basically:

Loosen lock nut

Using only your fingers, adjust rod so its flush against the mc piston. Basically you finger tighten till you feel it bottom.

Tighten locknut

There is the appropriate amount of play built into mc. You'll still feel about a quarter inch+ or so of play at the pedal.

Your actual question though was about ratio of threads needed to adjust. That can be affected by pedal height adjustment. Maybe po set pedal height way outta whack.

Pedal height is adjusted by one of the pedal stops up under the dash. Gotta get your contortionist moves on to see it and adjust it. There are threads on adjusting pedal height, and ots covered ij seevic manual.

My suggestion is adjust your pedal height back to stock, then redo rod play adjustment (to zero play), and see if that resolves rod thread issue.

I agree. I’d like to have zero free play. The issue I’m having is that turning the rod clockwise to reduce free play is also turning the rod out of the bracket that attaches to the pedal!

to remove any more of the free play, I would need a longer rod

The rod has to come out or screw in to the pedal bracket. This is how the adjustment works.

Maybe your pedal height is too high.

Did someone alter it?

And is this a stock CMC?

OEM CMC from Majestic, brand new.

The only way the manual talks about adjusting pedal height is via the rod. Is there another adjustment? Can’t find anybody talking about anything except the rods on here.

I’ll post a video in a minute and see what you guys think.

Yep, watched this before I started.

my concern is the amount of play remaining AFTER I’ve adjusted this out as far as I can.

It’s possible that the play I have remaining is simply the MC play, and I’m actually being dumb, which is why I posted the video.

It also seems like my CMC has 2 “stages” of play in it. Is this normal? Again, a new CMC
