CLUTCH
My S is at Spugen now, and while its in I figured I might as well change my clutch. I've got a Spoon flywheel that came with my car that will be installed with the clutch
A lot of people here seem to really be a fan of the OEM disk w/ ACT pressure plate combo. How hard is pedal effort? I drive a lot everyday and I don't want a leg workout if I get stuck in traffic on the 405.
Anybody using a centerforce clutch? This was the one that Duc personally recomended. I know that they've been making clutches for a long time and that their reputation is generally favorable. How does the pedal pressure compare to the ACT?
Prior to speaking with Duc, I was thinking ACT PP w/OEM disk, but after hearing Duc's recomendation I'm leaning toward Centerforce. Any thoughts? As always, thanks for the input fellas.

It'll be a little stronger than your stock one right now because the springs in the centerforce are made to be stronger. If you can deal with it then just do the centerforce...it grabs harder.

stick with the oem disc or similar. your clutch will chatter like a sonofabitch if you go aftermarket.
I have the ACT....It feels like stock now that I'm used to it, and is not tiring at all.
When I drive a stock S, the clutch feels amazingly light. I'd recommend ACT. I'm sure the others are good as well, as long as you have a few people that can vouch.
One clutch I can say I will never use, install AGAIN, or recommend. Exedy.

Okay, I've got a few hundred (race) miles on my stock clutch and the other day on the dyno, and this weekend at the dry lakes meet, the engine was making so much power it blew right "through" the clutch (something about a little T-6 turbo I installed... I don't know).
Anyway since I am basically drag racing for either 1.3 or 5 miles, depending on the course, I'm lookin for something that will hold the power, and is as light as possible. Smooth engagement isn't too much of an issue, since we only "use" the clutch gently off the line. I was even thinking about doing push starts and running a direct drive, i.e., no clutch at all, and a "clutchless" tranny, like a Liberty, but they are big bucks. For the moment, I'll just stick with the stock tranny and a beefier clutch.
Thoughts, anyone?
And thanks,
Jim Knapp
