"Clunking Sound" when going into 1st gear
Hi all. I just bought a 2005 SS with 5700 miles. When I shift into 1st gear from a dead stop it sometimes makes a "clunking sound" and i can feel the "clunk' underneath the driver seat. has anyone experienced this? thanks for any help!!!

Try engaging the clutch and put it into 1st while the car is off.
If it is the same noise you heard / feel, it is probably just normal. The S2k gearbox the very clunky and mechanical-feeling (a + in my book). In the mornings when I have my radio off and the top down, and I go from 1st to 2nd under 2500rpms, I can hear the gearbox over the exaust! Haha.

Yea its fairly normal. When sitting at a dead stop clutch into 4th gear first to slow down the syncros and then go into first it should kill any "clunking" sounds that you hear.

It is probably because you are sitting in neutral with the clutch out. When you do that, the tranny spins slowly. If you then clutch in and engage first, it clunks very slightly. If that is the scenario, there is nothing to worry about. You will notice that there is no clunk if you keep the clutch in for an extended period and then engage first. This situation has been covered here many many times.

But I've clutched in and I still hear the same clunking sound??
I've just accepted it as how the s2k trans is.
