Clunking Noise
Hey,
I have a problem with my suspension (OEM no springs), I have had the wheel off and checked every bolt to make sure it's tight but still make a clunking noise when I go over bumps etc. I think it may be the top mount as when I put my hand on the top of the central nut and move the car up and down I can feel that nut go up and down. Although if I place my hand on the metal part and move the car it's rigid.
Would it be possible for the top nut to come loose over time? Or is the entire shock just scrap? Got a MOT coming up and need to get it fixed so I don't fail

if the top nut goes up and down as the suspension moves wouldn't the two bolts holding the shock/spring in place be loose ?. I would check the tightness of those two nuts.
The other source of clunking noise could be a badly worn endlink on the sway bar, if it has lost it's tension.

Pretty sure the two nuts that hold the top mount to the chassis are tight, will check though... Will get the car up tonight and have a look at the link and see if it move around, not much way to test it really as need a bit of weight in it!!??

I have checked every nut and bolt and also removed the link between the ARB and lower arm and still made the noise... it is def movement in the top mount section and think I may have a knackered damper... going to replace with my coilovers and see if it fixes it...

Just to update incase anyone searches this...
I swapped out the dampers and springs with my coilovers and the knocking has completely disappeared... so it looks like it was the damper/spring assembly...
There was excessive movement in the rubber section in comparison to the metal section of the top mount HOWEVER I am unsure exactly what is wrong... there seems to be some oil seeping from the damper so guessing it's blown rather than it being the top mount.
